How to Protect Yourself From Crypto Scams as a Creator

The crypto space has a scam problem. As a creator with a public profile and an announced token project, you become a target. Here are the scams most likely to hit you and exactly how to defend against them.

Scam Type 1: Fake Partnership Outreach

You announce your token. Within hours, accounts claiming to be from major exchanges, marketing firms, or listing services contact you offering deals. 99% of these are scams. Signs: they contact you first, they ask for payment upfront or token allocation, they cannot verify their identity via official channels, they create artificial urgency ("this offer expires in 24 hours").

Defence: all legitimate outreach can wait 24-48 hours for verification. Check every inbound contact via official channels (the verified exchange website, not a link they send you).

Scam Type 2: Community Impersonators

Scammers create Telegram and Discord accounts with usernames almost identical to yours or your moderators, then DM your community members claiming to offer exclusive deals, whitelist spots, or support. Your real team will NEVER DM community members first asking for wallet details or payments.

Defence: set a pinned message in your community on day one: "Our team will NEVER DM you first. Any unsolicited DM claiming to be from our team is a scam. Report immediately."

Scam Type 3: Phishing Wallet Drainers

You receive a link to a site that appears legitimate but contains malicious code designed to drain your wallet when you connect it. Often disguised as airdrop claims, collaboration forms, or admin portals.

Defence: use a dedicated hot wallet for your token-related activities with only the funds needed for that purpose. Keep the bulk of your holdings in a hardware wallet (Ledger) that never touches unknown sites.

Scam Type 4: Sniping Bots on Launch

Automated bots watch the blockchain for new token deployments and buy enormous amounts in the same transaction as your liquidity addition, then sell immediately after your initial buyers push the price up. Defend against this with delayed public announcement timing and by using anti-sniping mechanics available on most DEX launchpads.
