How to Analyse Memecoin On-Chain Data Like a Pro

The blockchain is a perfect audit trail. Every transaction, every wallet, every token movement is public and permanent. Understanding how to read this data gives you an enormous advantage - both in assessing the health of your own project and in understanding what experienced buyers see when they look at your token.

Tools for On-Chain Analysis

Solscan (solscan.io) and Explorer.solana.com are the primary block explorers for Solana. Birdeye provides combined chart and holder analytics. DexScreener shows real-time trade data. Bubblemaps (bubblemaps.io) creates visual maps of wallet interconnections that reveal coordinated wallets and whale concentration. All of these are free.

Holder Distribution Analysis

Healthy holder distribution for a mature memecoin: top 10 wallets hold under 30% of supply collectively. No single wallet (excluding the liquidity pool) holds more than 10%. Hundreds or thousands of wallets each hold small amounts. Warning signs: top 10 wallets hold 60%+ of supply, many top wallets were funded from the same source wallet, or the distribution looks like a small number of wallets own almost everything (whale concentration).

Wallet Clustering

Bubblemaps visualises whether multiple wallets are connected to the same funding source. If 50 wallets all received their initial SOL from the same wallet, they are likely controlled by the same person or team. High wallet clustering with large combined holdings is a major red flag that suggests artificial buy pressure or team token dumping through multiple wallets.

Dev Wallet Monitoring

For your own token: post your team wallets publicly and label them in Solscan. This removes any mystery around team wallet activity. For tokens you are evaluating: watch the deployer wallet and any labelled team wallets for unusual movements. Large token movements from team wallets before any public announcement are a classic warning sign.

Buy/Sell Ratio Analysis

DEX Screener and Birdeye show buy vs sell ratios. A healthy, growing token has consistently more buy transactions than sell transactions. When sells start consistently exceeding buys without any price recovery, it signals distribution (holders are exiting) rather than accumulation. This is an early warning signal that the community is losing confidence.
